Relying on yourself is the best you can do. However, relying on your future self is not always the best choice. Be honest: How many times have you said “Tomorrow is the day for change”? and that tomorrow never came ….
By other words, if your present self keeps delaying everything, your future self probably won’t be any better. In fact, your future self is just a reflection of what you are now. Therefore, if you’re inconsistent and unreliable today, why would your future self be any different tomorrow?
Instead of relying on your future self, you should know that your future self is actually the one relying on you. As so, making changes in the present is crucial if you want a different future. After all, you can’t expect different results when you keep doing the same procrastinating behavior.
There is definitely plenty you can do to ensure your future self will be proud of his/her past self. How? First of all, take initiative and start doing things today. Cast procrastination aside and make a change today. Try different paths, take risks and believe in yourself – work towards a better future.
Would you like to have more money? A better job? More time to spend with your family? Start defining your goals and objectives. Generally, long-term objectives require time, effort and dedication. Therefore, you should start right now. Sometimes the hardest part is the first step. Once you’re in motion, then everything becomes more fluid. Establish a routine and rules, and don’t give up until you obtain the results you’re looking for.
When you’re relying entirely on your future self, you’re also trusting in blind luck. Running from your present responsibilities and delegating them (to someone who’s as unreliable as you are) is probably not what you want to do with your life. If you want to be successful in anything you do, you need to start focusing on making things happen right now. Not tomorrow, not soon, not later. Today. Stop yourself from procrastinating endlessly and make a change into your life.
Do not be afraid to take different paths and to take risks. Life is all but experiences and you learn from your own mistakes. So, step up and fight for your dreams and your ambitions. Only then you can possibly make them come true. Sometimes failure is better than standing still and watching time passing by. At least you’ll know you’ve done all you could to achieve a certain goal. You’ve tried and you’ve learnt something. Plus, you won’t have as many regrets.
The key is to keep focused on your future self. Think about the things you’d like to have or how you’d like to be. Make yourself an entity that you’d be proud of, so that your future self can be proud of you.
In the end, our lives are nothing but a result of our every past decision. So, make sure to turn your future into an experience made in the present. Rely in yourself now. Make things happen. And remember that your future self is relying more on you than you’ll ever be able to rely on your future self.
